Saints Cosmas and Damian, early Christian martyrs twin brothers who practiced the art of healing. They accepted no payment for their services, and because of that they were nicknamed The Silverless. During the last major persecution of the Christians, Cosmas and Damian were arrested and ordered to recant under torture. Staying true to their faith through a series of gruesome tortures that did not harm them, they finally suffered execution by beheading.
