The story of The Pilgrim Virgin begins in 1946 when a group of youth from Portugal attended a Congress in Fatima. The youth took the finely adorned statue of Mary from the display in the Cova on pilgrimage to Lisbon. While they traveled, they stopped in various towns and prayed with the townspeople. When they arrived in Lisbon, they entered the cathedral and the miracle of doves occurred. This event, along with many other phenomena, inspired the devotion of the people.
