Saint Nicholas was a fourth century Christian saint and bishop. He has many miracles attributed to him and is also known as Nicholas the Wonderworker. He had a reputation as being a secret gift-giver and often put coins in the shoes of those that left them outside their door. He is the model for which Santa Claus is derived. Saint Nicholas is the patron saint of sailors, merchants, archers, repentant thieves, children, brewers, pawnbrokers and students. The Jeweled Cross Saint Nicholas statue depicts the saint holding a small parcel.
