STORY ABOUT HER
She was born in 1656 in Osernon, what is now New York. At 4 years old, she was orphaned, and her younger sister also died of a smallpox epidemic. Katherine survived but was left with scars on her face and vision problems. At age 20, she was baptized by some French missionaries. He had to suffer great abuse and rejection for his faith by his family and other peoples until he reached a Christian village near Montreal. He died on April 17, 1680 at the age of 24 in New France. She was canonized on October 21, 2012 by Pope Benedict. The church celebrates its day every year on July 14. She is the patron saint of Canada’s aborigines, nature, and ecology. His last words before he died were “Jesus, I love you.”
