Saint Cecelia, the early Christian martyr, is the patron saint of music. According to tradition, she was a noble Roman who dedicated her virginity to God and was married against her will. Her husband allowed her to maintain her vow if she allowed him to see the angel with whom she conversed. Her husband was baptized and was martyred. The St. Cecelia statue pays homage to the musical background of the saint as she is depicted holding a harp, her instrument of choice.
